Everyone knows what a person is, but do you know what personification is? Personification is when you assign the qualities of a person to something that isn't human or, in some cases, to something that isn't even alive.
There are many reasons for using personification. It can be used as a method of describing something so that others can understand. It can be used to emphasize a point. It is a commonly favoured literary tool, and you may in fact use personification without even knowing it!

you write because you have something to say.’

Welcome to our Blog! The St. Killian’s Squirrels Creative Writing Group was formed in February 2013 and has already proved to be very popular and successful. The group was set up by Mr. Ferguson and Mrs. Furey to give Years 8’s a chance to develop their writing skills. It also allows pupils to make new friends and have fun at lunchtime exchanging stories and ideas with one another.
The name ‘St. Killian’s Squirrels’ was initially an idea of Mr. Downey who thought it would be fitting to use the symbol of the red squirrel, which is native to the Glens.
At a special assembly, Mr. McIlwaine (VP) presented the members with their badges. The Year 8 representatives for the Creative Writing Group are Paul Wharry and Hannah Schnell. The group will be preparing to enter their first writing competition in the coming term.
Many people say that Maths and English aren't the best of friends, but Paul has managed to 'add' them together to 'equal' and excellent story! Well done Paul!
Could you write anything better?
Challenge 1: How many maths related words can you spot in this short story?
Challenge 2: Can you write your own story using words related to Maths OR any other subject? Have a go and send it in to the Squirrels.
